Global Emergency Response Program Announced
Global Alert Offers a Tool for Corporations & Their Employees to Respond to Crises Such as the South Asia Tsunami
(CSRwire) ALEXANDRIA, VA - Global Impact, one of the most successful and
trusted names in international philanthropy, is offering a new way for
corporations and their employees to respond rapidly to a global crisis.
Global Alert is an electronic crisis response program of Global Impact, a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the poorest people on
earth. Global Alert offers a full range of services that assure
operational efficiency, the sound stewardship of donor contributions and
programs that help those most in need.
"The Global Alert concept has been an integral part of our strategic
plan," said Renée S. Acosta, President and CEO of Global Impact. "We
recognized early that a new frontier for international humanitarian relief
and development resided in the American workplace, where employees were
relying on their employers to quickly respond to international crises such
as the South Asia tsunami and to provide them with a simple and effective
method of expressing their support for those in critical need."
Global Alert's features include:
A web-based link that provides for easy set-up and use for
corporations and donors;
A rapid response capability that activates a web link within 24 hours
of a global crisis; and
A senior program staff with more than 100 years of combined
philanthropic and IT experience to provide superior customer service.
In addition, through Global Impact's existing partnership with more than
50 highly respected charities, the integrity of corporate and donor
contributions is assured. All charities have been vetted, allowing for
quick activation of Global Alert.
The geographic scope of Global Alert is extensive, with member charities
providing services to virtually every developing country, facilitating a
rapid response no matter where or when a crisis occurs.
The benefits of Global Alert for corporate partners are numerous. Global
Alert not only establishes a corporation's capacity to respond rapidly and
efficiently to a global crisis, it supports corporate branding, meets the
needs of employees with diverse backgrounds and charitable interests,
ensures high standards of accountability for charitable gifts and fulfills
the corporation's global philanthropic needs.
The outpouring of contributions by U.S. donors in the aftermath of the
South Asia tsunami demonstrates the limitless generosity of the American
people. In response to the tsunami, Global Impact partnered with
California Pizza Kitchen, PepsiCo and Wells Fargo, resulting in nearly
$1.1 million raised for relief efforts.
Global Alert Established For Darfur
A humanitarian crisis drawing less international attention but one that is
no less urgent is the civil strife in Sudan. At least 180,000 people have
died since fighting began in Sudan's Darfur region, and approximately 2
million people have fled their homes to escape the conflict. Darfur's
refugees depend on the aid being provided by Global Impact's member
charities.
Darfur refugees are among the world's most vulnerable people. Since the
threat of violence has prevented them from returning to their homes, these
people are dependent on the food aid and other humanitarian assistance
provided in refugee camps in western Sudan and across the border in Chad.
Civilians continue to be systematically attacked, and women and girls
raped.
International relief agencies have braved violence and government
obstruction to bring critical aid to the people who need it most. Many of
Global Impact's member charities, such as American Jewish World Service,
CARE, Catholic Relief Services, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee,
Church World Service, Oxfam America, Save the Children and World Relief,
are providing assistance to refugees from the Darfur region.
Global Alert is a quick, efficient way for corporations to ensure that
their charitable gifts and those of their employees are helping citizens
around the world who are suffering from crises beyond their control.
