Kimberly-Clark And Its Employees Pledge Up To US$1.5 Million To Aid Victims Of South Asia Tsunami
Company Increases Cash Contribution to UNICEF to US$500,000 and Will Match Its Employees' Gifts Dollar-for-Dollar Up to an Additional US$500,000
(CSRwire) DALLAS - Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) announced today it
will increase its cash contribution to the United Nations Children's Fund
(UNICEF) to US$500,000 to support South Asia tsunami disaster relief. The
company also announced it will match dollar-for-dollar gifts made by its
employees to UNICEF's relief operation, up to an additional US$500,000.
Combined, this will bring Kimberly-Clark and its employees' cash donations
to as much as US$1.5 million.
"As the magnitude of this disaster has grown, all of us at Kimberly-Clark
felt compelled to do more," said Thomas J. Falk, Kimberly-Clark Chairman
and CEO. "We commend UNICEF and the many governments, charities and
individuals involved in humanitarian efforts to help the region recover
from this tragic event."
In addition to its cash contributions, Kimberly-Clark has donated much
needed health and hygiene products to the relief effort, including Huggies
diapers, Kotex feminine pads, Scott tissue products and Safeskin surgical
gloves. Kimberly-Clark employees in Thailand responded immediately with
blood drives, product donations and local relief assistance.
The company will continue to respond with products as needed. Last week,
Kimberly-Clark contributed an additional 100,000 gloves for use by health
care workers at the request of local hospitals.
"With a tragedy of this enormity, we know it will take the combined
efforts of governments, charities, individuals and companies to assist the
millions of people affected," said Falk. "We are hopeful our company's
donations and the contributions of our employees will help in the recovery
effort now under way."
