Citizens Advisers' Dr. Vesela Veleva to Speak at Babson College
Seminar will cover opportunities in socially responsible investing
(CSRwire) Portsmouth, NH - On Thursday, November 4, the Babson College
Math/Science Department will host a seminar on socially responsible
investing (SRI) led by Dr. Vesela Veleva, social research analyst for
Citizens Advisers.
With the growing power of corporations, SRI has become an important tool
for promoting transparency and greater accountability. The seminar will
provide an opportunity for students and other university members to learn
how SRI can help realize financial goals, while using ethics, scientific
knowledge and quantitative techniques to make the world a better place.
The seminar will introduce the main building blocks of SRI before delving
into the role of science in investing and the challenges of scoring and
ranking corporate social performance. Dr. Veleva also will share
highlights of a recent study she co-authored on the electronics industry's
preparedness to meet new global toxics regulations. She will conclude with
examples of actual companies screened by Citizens' social research
department and discuss how SRI can serve as a driver for social change and
responsibility.
The seminar, which is open to the public, will last one hour, beginning at
3:30 pm in Mallory 201 at Babson College, which is located in Wellesley,
Massachusetts.
