State FarmĀ® Life Insurance, Connie Payton Honor Women Who Persevere After Loss of Spouse
'Embrace Life Awards' to Celebrate Inspirational Women - Winners Receive $5,000 Cash Award, Trip to New York City, and Recognition at Gala Luncheon
(CSRwire) BLOOMINGTON, IL - State Farm(R) Life Insurance
Company today announces it is accepting nominations for the first-ever
Embrace Life Awards honoring women who inspired and persevered after the
deaths of their spouses. To celebrate the achievements and share the "life
lessons" of these women, State Farm will honor five winners with a $5,000
cash award and recognition at the Embrace Life gala luncheon on September
15, 2004.
Connie Payon, wife of National Football League (NFL) legend Walter Payton,
will be the featured speaker at the luncheon. She will share from personal
experiences her triumph over difficult circumstances and her ability to
embrace life once again after her late husband succumbed to cancer.
"By sharing these 'life lessons', we hope to help more families maintain
their ways of life and deal with tragedy if the unexpected happens," says
Susan Waring, CLU, senior vice president and chief administrative officer
of State Farm Life Insurance Companies. "Unfortunately, fewer than 50
percent of American adults protect their hopes and dreams for the future
with life insurance."
How to Enter
Participants are invited to nominate a special woman by submitting an
essay (of no more than 500 words) between August 11, 2004 and August 27,
2004. Participants are welcome to nominate themselves. The essays will be
judged by an independent panel of experts on four criteria:
- A brief history of the nominee and the circumstances leading up
to the loss of her husband;
- Information on how the nominee moved beyond her grief to embrace life
and inspire others;
- Overview of how the experience changed her; and
- Life lessons from the nominee on what, if anything, she would do
differently - and what advice she would offer others, facing a similar
situation.
Participants must be at least 13 years of age and can enter
by visiting the State Farm Embrace Life Awards Contest Web site at www.sfembracelifeawards.com
