What Assures: Principles, Practice and Progress
AccountAbility announces international assurance event 18th November 2004 - London
(CSRwire) London, UK - The drive to improve assurance to stakeholders on
companies' social, economic and environmental performance and intentions
is gathering pace. Investors, regulators communities, employees,
customers, NGOs and companies themselves are all seeking improvements in
this area. And recent developments in international company law, including
Sarbanes-Oxley in the US and the OFR in the UK, are further fuelling this
demand.
Launched in March 2003, the AA1000 Assurance Standard is globally
recognised as the leading assurance standard to enable, corporate, NGO and
Public Sector organisations to build credibility with stakeholders and
improve performance. There is now a growing demand for information and
practical experience of the standard and how it can improve assurance and
accountability.
In response to these needs AccountAbility is delighted to announce
an international event, in London, that will explore the important roles
of accountability and assurance.
This one-day conference, followed by a training day, will provide
essential learning for those wanting to understand, use or influence
emerging assurance standards, including the AA1000 Assurance Standard. It
will offer unique insights for business managers, assurance providers,
corporate responsibility managers, investor relations' professionals and
internal audit managers; at all levels of experience and
understanding.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
Explore businesses' experiences in assuring social and environmental
performance.
Examine 'what assures', and how confident stakeholders feel in
companies' accountability.
Focus on the AA1000 Assurance Standard including; applications to
date, relationship to other frameworks such as GRI, and future use.
Learn how companies have benefited from the AA1000 Assurance
Standard.
Attendees will be benefit from:
A better understanding of current assurance practices and the role of
accountability, including the AA1000 Assurance Standard and the Global
Reporting Initiative.
Practical information on how to implement and improve processes and
activities, both in reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
New thinking that will support a better understanding of key issues.
Networking opportunities for companies, NGOs and service providers to
discuss their own experiences.
At this event AccountAbility will launch its upgraded professional
certification scheme, which will enable assurance providers to test and
demonstrate their competencies against a clearly defined framework.
Following the conference, AccountAbility will also hold a training
day on 19th November, for those wishing to increase their
competencies around the AA1000 Assurance Standard. On 17th
November, prior to the conference, we are also planning to run a
half-day introduction seminar.
