United Technologies Grants Nearly $3 Million
United Technologies Grants Nearly $3 Million to Local and Regional Organizations, Programs
(CSRwire) HARTFORD, CT - United Technologies Corp. announced today the
awarding of nearly $3 million in grants to charitable causes and
organizations in Connecticut, as part of the corporation's total $6.1
million statewide commitment this year.
The grants will help support 80 organizations and programs focused on
education, human services, arts and culture, and the environment.
"United Technologies is committed to being a good corporate neighbor,"
said George Jamison, UTC vice president of communications. "We support
programs and organizations that make our communities better places in
which to live and work."
Among the grant recipients and contributions are:
FIRST Robotics, $200,000, to sponsor the annual New England Regional
Competition for high school teams and the robots they design, build and
operate.
Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program, $120,000, to sponsor science,
math and pre-engineering programs in public schools.
Connecticut Invention Convention, $20,000, to support statewide
competition that promotes critical and creative thinking for youngsters
ages 7-12. The grant is the largest single gift in the organization's
history.
Greater Hartford Arts Council, $110,000, to sponsor the annual
United Arts campaign and Veteran's Day parade. UTC also will match
employee gifts during the company's workplace giving campaign.
Hartford Stage Company, $92,000, to sponsor the world premiere of
Edward Albee?s Peter & Jerry, which opens later this month, and to lease a
new phone system.
Special Olympics Connecticut, $75,000, to sponsor the Summer Games.
This is UTC's 27th consecutive year as title sponsor.
Urban League of Greater Hartford, $65,000, for general programs and
to help fund the position of vice president for development.
United Technologies Corp., headquartered in Hartford, Conn., is a
diversified company that provides a broad range of high technology
products and support services to the building systems and aerospace
industries worldwide.
