AT&T Joins American Cancer Society Relay For LifeĀ® National Team Program for Fifth Year

(CSRwire) BEDMINSTER, N.J. - For the fifth consecutive year, AT&T is participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life National Team Program for corporations.

As one of 10 corporate national team program members, AT&T has committed to provide a minimum of 50 teams in two states in 2004. In 2003, the company sponsored 85 teams in 55 Relays in 25 states, raising more than $285,000 for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.

This year, AT&T's goal is to increase the number of teams by 40 percent, nearly double the number of Relays in which its employees participate, increase the number of participating employee and retiree volunteers by nearly 30 percent, and boost the funds raised by more than 60 percent.

"AT&T has a long tradition of employee volunteerism and a deep commitment to supporting worthy initiatives in communities where our people live and work," said Connie Weaver, AT&T executive vice president. "We're delighted once again that so many of our employees have chosen to participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life."

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise money for the fight against cancer. AT&T employees are eligible to volunteer under AT&T CARES, the company program that gives employees one paid day a year for community service. AT&T CARES also provides grant funds to augment contributions raised by AT&T employee teams.
