Starbucks Receives Colombian Order of the Grand Cross Medal for its Support of Coffee Farmers and Country's Economy

Recognition Marks the First Time the Medal was Awarded to a Coffee Company and a U.S. Company

(CSRwire) SEATTLE, WA - Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq: SBUX) is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded the Colombian Order of the Grand Cross Medal for its role in supporting the local economy and involvement in social projects in the country. Presented by the Secretary of Agriculture of the State of Nariño, the award is the highest honor given by the Colombian government. This marks the first time the medal has been presented to a coffee company and a U.S. company.

"The medal validates that our coffee sourcing strategies and presence in origin countries continues to contribute to the sustainability of coffee growers and their families."

For more than two decades, Starbucks has contributed to the economy of the State of Nariño in Colombia through its purchases of high quality coffee at premium prices. In addition, Starbucks invested in a housing renovation project that benefited approximately 500 families last year.
