Nike Announces 2003 Casey Martin Award Call for Nominations
Individual Award and $25,000 Donation to Nonprofit Organization
(CSRwire) BEAVERTON, OR - Nike Inc. announced the official Call for
Nominations for the 2003 Casey Martin Award, which honors an individual
who has excelled in athletic pursuits while overcoming significant
physical, mental, societal or cultural challenges and/or who proudly
serves as an advocate for fellow athletes with disabilities.
The recipient of the Casey Martin Award receives a silver medal inscribed,
"In recognition of your courage to fight for what is right and fair, on and
off the field," and a $25,000 grant to a nonprofit organization of the
winner's choosing that supports the disabled community.
Criteria for the Casey Martin Award
Individual of any age with a disability as defined by the Department
of Justice.
Individual has pursued his/her sport of choice to a level of success
despite challenges/barriers, whether physical, psychological, societal or
cultural; and/or who has taken a personal and public stand to support and
inspire other individuals with disabilities to pursue and excel in
sport.
If selected, nominee must be available November 2003 to travel to
Nike's World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon (award recipient will be
notified of specific date).
Criteria for the $25,000 Nonprofit Grant Award
Recipient must be an eligible nonprofit 501(c)3 organization in good
standing with the IRS.
Recipient can be local, national or international in scope providing
direct service, education or public policy support to individuals or
organizations serving the disabled community.
Funds will be restricted to program or operational support.
Grant will be issued by the Nike, Inc. Nike reserves the right for
final approval.

The Casey Martin award celebrates the passion and competitive spirit of
pro golfer Casey Martin, in whose favor the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in
May 2001 regarding the use of a motorized cart on the professional golf
tour. Past Casey Martin award recipients include Rudy Garcia-Tolson
(2002), a swimmer and track athlete, and Eli Wolff (2001), a member of the
U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team.
The Casey Martin Award is an integral part of Nike's overall diversity
