(CSRwire) Beaverton, OR - The Asian Family Center, For Us Northwest and the
Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metropolitan Area today announced they have
received a donation of $139,000 from Nike, Inc. on behalf of the company's
six employee diversity networks.
On Dec. 5, 2002, 800 Nike employees, spouses and partners gathered in the
Tiger Woods Center at Nike's World Headquarters in Beaverton to try their
luck at the "Night of Chance," an evening that included games and a silent
auction that raised $139,000 to benefit the three local children's
organizations.
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Metropolitan Portland, For Us Northwest
and the Asian Family Center each received a $37,000 grant from Nike to be
used toward their continuing support of children in need in the Portland
area. In addition, Nike matched contributions made by employees on a
dollar-for-dollar basis for a total of $28,000 that will be dispersed to
the organizations at a later date.

Portland, it makes our effort more meaningful and have greater impact in
the lives of our clients' families. When large organizations like Nike
contribute to small organizations like ours, it really makes a difference
and validates our efforts." said Lee Po Cha, Director of the Asian Family
Center.
"Nike's employees have raised the bar on investing in their community.
Their contribution has made it possible for us to serve more kids, more
often and in more ways," said Sean Cox, Executive Director of For Us
Northwest.
"Nike's involvement in the community has been one of inspiring,
instructing and investing in our youth. Their leadership has made a
profound impact on the lives of the kids we serve at the Boys & Girls
Club," noted Joseph and Lisabeth Marziello, Chief Executive Officers of
the Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metropolitan Area.
The Night of Chance was a Nike employee involvement efforts managed
entirely by the company's six diversity networks: African American, Asia
Pacific, Disabled, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual and Transgendered, Latino and
Native American. The event was an opportunity for the six networks to come
together to create an all-employee event that highlighted the commitment of
each network, while benefiting organizations in the community that
reflected the company's commitment to help children become more active and
healthy through physical activity and other positive opportunities.
