Sundance Channel Greenlights Season Two of Isabella Rossellini's "Green Porno"
Series on Sex Life of Sea Creatures Debuts on sundancechannel.com April 2009
(CSRwire) Watching Rossellini dressed up as a giant spider or curled up in a
snail's shell or flying through the air as a bee while copulating
midflight with a female of the species makes you realize how unnecessarily
dull science class usually was.
-New York Daily News, Michael Glitz
CANNES - October 14, 2008 - "Green Porno," Isabella Rossellini's
critically acclaimed short film series about the sex life of various
creatures, goes from land to sea with the creation of eight all-new
episodes exploring the reproductive habits of marine animals. The
announcement was made today by Christopher Barry, Sundance Channel, Senior
Vice President Digital Media and Business Strategy. These films will
premiere on sundancechannel.com in April 2009.
"Green Porno" is produced by Isabella Rossellini, Jody Shapiro and Rick
Gilbert in association with Sundance Channel. The series is conceived,
written by and features Rossellini. The films are directed by Rossellini
and Shapiro.
Fremantle Media Enterprises will distribute the shorts internationally
beginning spring 2009. They are available for internet, mobile and
television sales.
In the second series of "Green Porno" Isabella Rossellini looks at and in
most cases acts out the reproductive activities of sea creatures including
the shrimp, squid, anchovy, barnacle, limpet, starfish, elephant seal,
angler fish and Right whale. Like the first season of "Green Porno," this
batch of films is scientifically accurate but the new pieces highlight the
devastation of world supplies due to human consumption.
Rossellini said "The secret to "Green Porno" is that they allow of us to
laugh but they also communicate true scientific information. Because of
what I learned in doing research for this series I felt strongly that
there needed to be an added environmental element to really inform people
how delicate the futures of these creatures are."
Meant to be shown individually or as a series, the "Green Porno" films are
a humorous, yet insightful study of the curious ways nature's creatures
procreate. The inventive costumes and colorful sets contribute to the
playfulness of the shorts and make them ideal for online viewing. The new
season will also include two experimental segments, which will include a
mix of animation and live documentary footage with interactive elements.
"Sundance Channel audiences were vastly amused and entertained by 'Green
Porno' commented Barry. "The length, style and humor of these shorts make
them perfect for digital viewing and we are eagerly awaiting Isabella’s
take on ocean creatures."
A selection of Rossellini's "Green Porno" shorts, which focused on the sex
lives of insects, premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and the 2008
Berlin international Film Festival. Season one of "Green Porno" is
currently available at sundancechannel.com/greenporno.
