eQuilibrium Solutions Corporation Announces Licensing of Environmental and Supply Chain Sustainability Application to Sears Canada

(CSRwire) TORONTO, ONTARIO. - September 29, 2008 - eQuilibrium Solutions Corporation, a leading provider of Enterprise Sustainability Management software (ESM), announced today that it has licensed its Enterprise Carbon Management (ECM) application to Sears Canada who will use the tool to further the retailer's corporate commitment to social and environmental stewardship across its operations.

The ECM solution incorporates the latest global technical and industry standards and employs collaborative technologies to unify sustainability efforts for all 35,000 Sears Canada employees, its suppliers, and customers.

Built from the ground up as a comprehensive web-centric solution, the ECM system is based on eQuilibrium's unsurpassed knowledge of environmental and social best practices, and is part of the full ESM suite which includes Sustainable Supply Chain, Energy Optimization, Product Stewardship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Water Resource Management. The Carbon Management application enables automation of data collection and quality assurance involved in accurate, auditable, and actionable Green House Gas inventories. The system also supports carbon footprinting analytics, reporting and disclosure management, as well as centralized control over carbon trading and reduction programs.

"As we move forward with our sustainability initiatives, an integrated program to assess the effectiveness and return on investment has become a priority," said Dr. James Gray-Donald, Associate Vice-President and Sustainability Leader, Sears Canada. "We look forward to working with the team at eQuilibrium Solutions Corporation and the ECM application."

"eQ's ECM product includes a library of standard protocols, forms, and metrics for measuring sustainability risk, compliance, and efficiency. Companies using tools like those provided by eQuilibrium can help introduce visibility, accountability and continuous improvement for key stakeholder groups and their senior management teams," noted Gopal Nagarajan, eQuilibrium President and CEO.

"While there is always motivation to curb technology spending, the real challenge for CSOs, CXOs and Corporate Directors is to effectively integrate sustainability into their existing operations management, governance and business structures" observed Dr. Bob Willard, author of "The Next Sustainability Wave." "Leaders like Sears Canada have planned to set specific goals for emissions reduction and social accountability. These executives are compelled to better understand, justifiably contain and communicate the value of sustainability program investments. They are demanding cost-effective monitoring, management and communication solutions for oversight of the integration, automation and best practices adopted from Board Room to Stock Room, and across their global supplier networks."

With the eQ ESM Suite, organizations go beyond the capabilities provided by Environment, Health and Safety point solutions, generalized carbon footprint calculators, or social responsibility reporting tools. The ESM Suite eliminates time-consuming manual and ad hoc metrics practices, enabling organizations to take a forward-thinking approach to measuring, monitoring, communicating and managing their sustainability programs.

"We view our initiative with Sears Canada as a true partnership in sustainability program innovation," added Mr. Nagarajan. "Until now, organizations lacked a means to assess the impact of environmental and social responsibility resource management in a time- and cost-effective manner," The eQ ESM Suite provides companies with software to reliably and consistently measure, monitor and communicate the quality of sustainability initiatives through trusted metrics-driven processes."

The Value of Enterprise Sustainability Management
Applying good metrics to sustainability performance initiatives can benefit organizations in a number of ways, including:

  • Measuring the effectiveness of controls,

  • Communicating the effectiveness of risk management programs,
  • Driving proper actions in focused areas and extending accountability,
  • Providing audited evidence of compliance, and
