Marriott International Named a 2008 100 Best Company by Working Mother Magazine
Company's flex staffing and family-friendly benefits are highlighted
(CSRwire) BETHESDA, MD. - September 25, 2008 - Marriott International, Inc.
(NYSE: MAR) has been recognized by Working Mother magazine as one
of its 2008 100 Best Companies. Marriott continues to earn its place in
Working Mother's Hall of Fame, having been named to the list for
the 17th time. A complete list of the 2008 Working Mother 100 Best
Companies, and Marriott's story can be found at www.workingmother.com. Marriott
was also recently named by Working Mother as a best green company for
American's children.
This year, the magazine highlighted Marriott's unique flex staffing which
allows full-timers to step back from their jobs and decide if they want to
reduce their project load—potentially with no loss of benefits. In 2007,
the ranks of those joining the flex program grew 44% from the prior year.
Marriott's MyARL, My Assistance and Resources for Life, which provides
confidential advice and referral services for a wide range of personal
issues, was also mentioned. The nationwide toll-free number is staffed by
professional social workers, supports more than 100 languages and is
available to all Marriott associates.
"We are very proud to be recognized for our commitment to working
mothers," said David A. Rodriguez, executive vice president for global
human resources, Marriott International. "Marriott is very aware of the
importance of supporting employees as they manage their priorities in
life. The company continues to enhance its family-friendly benefits,
which helps attract and retain the very best talent for our organization."
Companies were selected based on an extensive application with more than
500 questions. The application included detailed questions about
workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies
and more. It also checked the usage, availability and tracking of
programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them.
Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation,
child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs,
and company culture. For this year's 100 Best, particular weight was
given to family-friendly policies, flexibility, leave policies and
benefits for part-timers.
The company's commitment to its workforce has been recognized by a variety
of publications and organizations. For a full list, visit: Marriott
