OPM Recognizes Global Impact-Managed Combined Federal Campaigns
The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area and the Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas continue to lead the way in raising funds for those in need around the world
(CSRwire) ALEXANDRIA, VA. - July 7, 2008 - Global Impact, the Alexandria,
Virginia-based not-for-profit, announced today that the two Combined
Federal Campaigns (CFCs) it manages—the Combined Federal
Campaign-Overseas (CFC-O) and the Combined Federal Campaign of the
National Capital Area (CFCNCA)—received a record outpouring of donations
in 2007 to help fund charitable organizations and those they serve in the
United States and around the world. The two CFCs were the top-grossing
campaigns, ranking number one and number two on the list of top CFC
campaigns nationwide compiled by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management
(OPM).
In recognition of advancements in campaign management that helped make
such generosity possible, the CFC-O and CFCNCA each received a National
CFC "Innovator Award" from the National CFC Awards Committee for
demonstrating leadership and innovation in the 2007 fundraising campaigns.
The CFCNCA, the largest campaign in the 50-year history of the CFC
program, experienced a fifth consecutive year of unprecedented growth,
receiving pledges totaling nearly $60.8 million. This is the highest total
ever pledged to an individual campaign and amounted to $885,000 new dollars
raised over 2006 pledges to CFCNCA. The campaign was honored for its
innovations in marketing the campaign, especially its locally produced
2007 campaign video.
The CFC-O, the campaign for U.S. military and civilian employees of the
Department of Defense stationed overseas, generated revenue of $15.7
million, with over $5 million given by the Central Command troops, many of
whom are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is particularly
significant as many of the deployed troops are National Guard or
Reservists who cannot give by payroll deduction and, while under the most
trying of circumstances, are reaching into their hearts and pockets to
help others.
The CFC-O was recognized for its efforts to streamline the process of
giving by military members and civilians serving in the Central Command.
An exceptional restructuring of the campaign helped to overcome the unique
communication, logistical, operational and geographical challenges of
serving the far-flung areas of the command, while at the same time
ensuring no interruption to the demanding military mission of the area.
Together, the CFC-O and CFCNCA accounted for more than 28 percent of the
total dollars pledged by Federal employees to CFCs nationwide. According
to the most recent figures, Federal employees pledged $273 million to the
2007 campaign, representing a $1.23 million increase in pledges over the
2006 campaign. Of this $1.23 million increase, the CFCNCA and CFC–O are
responsible for $1.15 million in new pledges, or 93 percent of the
increase.
"Each year, generous men and women who already serve others as Federal
employees or members of the armed services open their hearts, giving what
they can to help others. Every year those who give offer even more, which
speaks to the best there is in Americans." said Renee S. Acosta, president
and CEO of Global Impact. "In the true spirit of altruism, they are helping
people they will likely never meet."
"This CFC success comes at a critical time for charitable giving," added
Ms. Acosta. "It ensures that more than 3,000 local, national, and
international charities receive much-needed funding that they can rely on
from donations to CFC."
