Environment Week at Future Shop Extends Year Round
In-store recycling boxes for small electronics at all Future Shop locations
(CSRwire) BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/02/08 -- Future Shop,
Canada's largest retailer and e-tailer of consumer electronics, is
encouraging customers to bring in small used electronics to any of its
stores across Canada for recycling.
Seven types of small used electronics are accepted free of charge at any
Future Shop store: cell phones, MP3 players, portable DVD players, CD
players, CDs and ink cartridges. Customers can deposit any of these seven
items into the Greentec boxes found in each of Future Shop's 133 stores.
"Canadians are more aware of the global issue of climate change than ever
before," said Anita Sehgal, Director Customer Experience. "As the largest
retailer of consumer electronics in the country, we want to encourage
Canadians to participate in the solution and make it easy for them - which
is exactly why we've made our small electronics collection program
available in every store - every week of the year."
Future Shop is also working on in-store initiatives to reduce energy
consumption and continues to work with its vendors to bring more efficient
and environmentally friendly products to market, including Energy Star TVs,
appliances and computer monitors. Earlier this year, Future Shop received
hundreds of HD-DVD players from customers during a Blu-Ray exchange offer
and donated all of the returned units to Boys and Girls Clubs of
Canada.
"We're committed to doing our part to help keep electronics out of
landfills," added Sehgal. "We want to make it convenient for customers to
properly dispose of the products they purchase from our stores - it's a
small, simple effort, but an important one."
