ACCA Singapore takes an Environmental Leadership Position by joining Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree(TM) Program
(CSRwire) -June 04, 2008 - ACCA Singapore announced today that it is offsetting its
carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org, one of the world's leading carbon
offset organizations. As a CarbonFree Event, ACCA Singapore is offsetting
the carbon footprint for its upcoming ACCA Sustainability Conference 2008
& the Singapore Environmental & Social Reporting Awards (SESRA) on June 5,
2008, held in conjunction with World Environment Day. This commitment
establishes ACCA as an environmental leader in the accounting and finance
community and demonstrates the proactive steps ACCA is taking in the fight
against global climate change.
ACCA made the decision to partner with CarbonFund.org as it is a leading
carbon offset organization with a proven track record of offsetting the
carbon footprints of events such as the Global Business Summit for the
Environment 2007 (B4E) held in Singapore. ACCA will ensure that the ACCA
Sustainability Conference 2008 & the Singapore Environmental & Social
Reporting Awards (SESRA) luncheon are carbon-neutral events.
This half-day conference will highlight the resources and initiatives that
promote corporate Singapore's transition to a low-carbon economy and also
examine the key issues surrounding the business need to take action in
enhancing their sustainability, growth and competitive advantage. The
SESRA luncheon will also reward companies in Singapore which have made a
commitment to greater transparency on the environmental and social impacts
of their operations.
"ACCA is continuously pushing the sustainability agenda. It's therefore
appropriate for our conference to take the lead role in being a carbon
neutral event to fight climate change," said Penelope Phoon-Cohen, Country
Head of ACCA Singapore. "We urge all businesses to incorporate
sustainability into their organizational strategies as this will be
critical towards their longer term economic viability and ensure they meet
their various stakeholder commitments."
"ACCA already recognizes the need to promote sustainable development in
countries like Singapore. By reducing its own climate impact, ACCA is
practicing the corporate social responsibility message it advocates," said
Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. "We're proud to help
make the 2008 ACCA Sustainability Conference and SESRA a CarbonFree
Event."
