Touring Green - Broadway Shows, Orchestras and Other Productions Go Green With Clark Transfer and NativeEnergy
(CSRwire) NEW YORK, NY - May 27, 2008 - Touring Broadway shows, major orchestras, and
performing arts productions announced the launch of "Touring Green," a new
entertainment industry initiative to help offset the impact of carbon
emissions from transporting theatrical equipment. In cooperation with
Clark Transfer, Inc., the leading theatrical transportation provider, and
NativeEnergy, Inc., a leading international provider of high
quality carbon offsets, the touring productions will offset the carbon
emissions from transporting their sets, instruments, and other theatrical
equipment. Offsets will be generated by new wind turbines, methane
digesters on American family farms, and landfill gas projects.
Touring productions travel millions of miles every year to bring quality
entertainment to people from coast to coast. The trucks transporting the
equipment emit thousands of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the
atmosphere. Productions participating in the Touring Green program are
helping fund short- and long-term projects through NativeEnergy to
offset the impact of these emissions.
Touring Green participants currently include: American Ballet Theater,
Camelot, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Drowsy Chaperone, Disney's The Lion
King, La Boheme (Portland State University), Mamma Mia, Monty Python's
Spamalot, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra,
Roundabout Theatre Company's Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Roundabout Theatre
Company's Twelve Angry Men, the Seattle Symphony, the Washington Ballet
and the Washington National Opera.
Tom Boucher, NativeEnergy's President & CEO, said, "We are very
pleased to partner with Clark Transfer, Inc. and a remarkable group of
Broadway shows, orchestras, and productions in this pioneering effort.
Our high quality renewable energy projects reduce global warming and
pollution by reducing the amount of power needed from fossil fuels. By
helping build new renewable energy projects, these productions are setting
a precedent in the entertainment field and taking responsibility in the
fight against global warming."
Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, the
national trade association for the Broadway industry, applauded this
breakthrough effort. She said, "Many of us are concerned about global
warming, but one of the hardest things to do is bridge the gap between
inclination and action. I am proud that Broadway and other leaders in the
performing arts joined with Clark Transfer and NativeEnergy to
offset emissions from moving so many of our productions. We hope that
Touring Green will inspire fans of the performing arts and encourage other
green initiatives."
Norma Deull, President of Clark Transfer, Inc. said, "We are delighted
with the response of the performing arts community to Touring Green.
Productions participating in Touring Green are leading the way to fully
offsetting the impact of moving theatrical equipment in this country. We
are confident that the outstanding group of projects funded by Touring
Green in partnership with NativeEnergy will have a positive impact
on the environment today and for years to come."
