New Lesbian Travel Company Partners with Carbonfund.org to go CarbonFree(TM)
Sweet vacations integrate volunteer opportunities and green initiatives
(CSRwire) SAN FRANCISCO, CA - May 28, 2008 -
Sweet,
a new lesbian travel company, announced today that it is offsetting its
carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org, one of the country's
leading carbon offset organizations. As a CarbonFree(TM)
Business Partner, Sweet is offsetting the carbon emissions from its
business operations, as well as emissions from employee air travel.
Sweet's mission is to provide fun-filled, eco-friendly, volunteer-oriented
and empowering lesbian travel experiences. A Sweet vacation is intended to
empower and motivate guests to achieve their personal, professional and
philanthropic goals. Travel itineraries will include volunteer programs
that provide aid to under-served communities and fund-raising activities
that support non-profit groups around the world.
"Responsible travel, such as evaluating the implications of travel on
climate change, is a high priority for Sweet," said Founder and CEO
Shannon Wentworth. "Partnering with Carbonfund.org to offset the carbon
footprint from our first itinerary, a Caribbean cruise, is a natural
extension of this commitment. We're really thrilled to be working with
Carbonfund.org."
"By promoting humanitarian work and demonstrating environmental concern,
Sweet is changing the travel industry and how people decide to spend their
vacation," said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. "We're
proud to help Sweet go CarbonFree."
About Sweet
Founded in 2008, Sweet is a lesbian travel company based in the San
Francisco Bay Area. Its first travel itinerary will be a fall 2009
Caribbean cruise departing from New Orleans.
Sweet integrates environmentally friendly programs and processes
throughout its business operations and travel itineraries. The company
partnered with Carbonfund.org in May 2008, one of the country’s leading
carbon offsetting organizations.
Sweet will also offer land packages and on board activities that enable
guests to participate in volunteer and/or philanthropic programs that
enrich the communities they visit. For its fall 2009 Caribbean cruise,
Sweet will offer a pre-departure, three-day land package enabling guests
to work with Katrina Relief. Additionally, Sweet is developing a series of
inspirational and educational on board programs that address topics of
relevance to lesbians, such as nutrition, fitness, wellness and workplace
issues; the goal is to provide smart strategies that inspire guests to
achieve a more balanced, happy and healthy lifestyle.
