GE, IKEA and Levi's CEOs To Headline BSR Conference
“Sustainability: Leadership Required,” Nov. 4-7, 2008, in New York
(CSRwire) SAN FRANCISCO, CA - May 6, 2008 – Business for Social Responsibility (BSR)
issued a call to action with "Sustainability: Leadership Required" as the
theme for the 16th annual BSR Conference (Nov. 4-7, 2008, in New
York) and announced three top global business leaders as initial plenary
speakers:
Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric
Anders Dahlvig, President and CEO of IKEA Group
John Anderson, President and CEO of Levi Strauss & Co.
One of the world's largest and most influential corporate responsibility
events, the BSR Conference connects more than 1,300 leaders from 50
countries and inspires them to put sustainable business strategies into
action.
"With sustainability at the top of the world's agenda, the global business
landscape is changing fast," said Aron Cramer, BSR President and CEO.
"Staying ahead of the curve requires dynamic leadership and systemic
solutions that deliver solid financial, social and environmental results.
The BSR Conference will equip participants to meet this leadership
challenge by developing truly sustainable business strategies today and in
the future."
GE's Immelt laid the vision for his company's ambitious "ecomagination"
initiative and often notes that "green is green" - that paying attention
to the environment is good for the bottom line. Immelt, whom the
investment magazine Barron's has frequently named one of the
"World's Best CEOs," led GE when it was recognized as "America's Most
Admired Company" by Fortune and one of the "World's Most Respected
Companies" by Barron's and the Financial Times.
Dahlvig joined the Ikea Group in 1984 and was honored with the U.S.
Foreign Policy Association's Global Social Responsibility award in 2006.
In 2002, he received the Swedish award for Good Environmental Leadership
because of his independent and persistent work with environmental and
sustainability issues.
As the head of Levi Strauss & Co., Anderson has helped the company
establish its worldwide reputation as a leader in corporate
responsibility. In 27 years with Levi's, he has turned the company's
sourcing operation into a competitive asset and continued to strengthen
its responsible practices with suppliers around the world.
The BSR
Conference 2008 offers the opportunity to interact with innovators in
responsible business and numerous thought leaders at 35 breakout sessions
in Economic Development, Environment, Governance and Accountability, and
Human Rights. Visit http://www.bsr.org/conference for
