VHA Inc. Introduces Corporate Citizenship & Sustainability Scorecard
(CSRwire) IRVING, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/02/08 -- VHA Inc., the national health
care alliance, today released its first Corporate Citizenship &
Sustainability Scorecard. This new tracking tool moves beyond traditional
financial reporting to discuss VHA's progress in other focus areas also
core to its business: dedication to workplace, operational transparency,
community engagement and sustainability.
The CC&S Scorecard, which covers VHA and its subsidiaries Novation and
Provista, brings VHA's public accountability to a new level of
transparency. The report is a key component of a larger Corporate
Citizenship & Sustainability program that is focused on ways community
commitment and environmental stewardship can help VHA and its members.
"VHA's corporate citizenship and sustainability scorecard takes us beyond
the financials, which only tell one part of our story," said Curt
Nonomaque, VHA's president and chief executive officer. "The VHA family of
companies has long operated with a strong commitment to community, and now
we see how this can lead to better performance. So we are pushing to
further strengthen our community development and environmental
stewardship."
The first CC&S Scorecard establishes benchmarks in four key areas that VHA
will use to track its progress annually. These areas are:
Workplace: VHA is creating working environments conducive to
education, diversity, networking and promoting best environmental
practices. One step toward achieving these goals is diversity leadership
training provided to all employees regardless of level or location.
Between 2006 and 2007, more than 1,300 employees received diversity
training during 49 sessions.
Operational Transparency: VHA is working to enhance public trust by
becoming more transparent about organizational processes, progress and
setbacks. To that, VHA seeks regular feedback from members to monitor its
ability to meet customer expectations. In 2007, the overall members'
satisfaction score was 82 out of 100, one point more than the previous
year.
Community Engagement: The company is encouraging volunteerism and
donating resources and time to programs that address community-based
health care problems and environmental sustainability. VHA's annual
Community Day and other volunteering opportunities have resulted in 28,000
employee volunteer hours and have raised nearly $212,000 for local
charities.
Sustainability: VHA is developing a sustainable model for its family
of companies. VHA has expanded its internal recycling program and held a
company-wide Earth Day event, during which nearly half of its employees
pledged to make positive "green" changes in their work and home lives. The
internal sustainability learning will be applied to support an increasing
number of member inquiries on good environmental practices.
