The Conscious Goods Alliance Spreads Awareness of Sustainability and Conscious Commerce
Bus Tour Proves It’s Possible To Vote With Your Wallet
(CSRwire) MIAMI, FL - April 28, 2008 – In an eco-configured 1984 Van Hool Tour
Coach fueled by recycled vegetable oil, an eclectic and inspired crew is
traveling around the United States to educate consumers about conscious
living. These "green missionaries" represent the Conscious Goods Alliance
(CGA), a group of committed businesses who believe in promoting conscious
lifestyles, products and brands, as well as consumers' ability to vote
with their dollars.
Started by Stephen Brooks and Zak Zaidman, founders of Kopali Organics,
the CGA is now in its third year, touring with 15 conscious companies.
"The CGA bus tour generates an incredible amount of buzz around its
sponsors and their products, as well as introducing people to alternative
energy, sustainable materials and conscious commerce," said Stefan
Schachter, co-founder of EcoTeas, one of the tour sponsors.
In a bus furnished with a bamboo interior, coconut palm floors, solar
powered electronics and recycled paper countertops; the 'veggie bus' is a
mobile ecological showroom. In its yearlong journey across the United
States, the CGA bus visits almost all Whole Foods and Wild Oats Markets,
in addition to other retail outlets, universities, schools, farmers
markets and community centers. The crew conducts product sampling, bus
tours and provides educational talks on sustainability and environmental
stewardship.
"The bus tour not only increases awareness of our company and products, it
also provides education on sustainability and organic products in general,"
said Heather Henning, Western Regional Sales Manager of Organic India. "We
believe the grassroots approach is contagious and that it will create a
chain of consciousness that links consumers to our global mission."
The CGA promotes a business philosophy that is committed to the social and
ecological bottom line in equal partnership with traditional bottom line
financial returns. "We are strong believers in the triple bottom line
approach and committed to doing business that is equally good for people
and the planet as well as profit," said Norman Brooks, COO of Kopali
Organics.
"The brands represented on the 'veggie bus' were all created with the
shared purpose of enhancing the health of consumers in a way that respects
the needs of society and the environment," said Tom Newmark, New Chapter
President and Co-CEO. "The Conscious Goods Alliance is truly a marriage
of economy and ecology."
The CGA bus will be on the road until March 2009. The bus is currently
touring the Southern Pacific region. Beginning May 15, they will be in
the Rocky Mountains region.
"We have successfully used the 'veggie bus' as our vehicle to reach people
on a very pressing issue facing our society," said Sara Newmark, New
Chapter Sustainability Coordinator. "We have jump-started the discussion
of what it means to be a responsible business as well as a conscious
consumer. Fueled by 15 outstanding companies, a common vision and, of
course, recycled vegetable oil-the CGA bus tour is an example of how
consumers can vote each day with the dollars they spend."
