Build-A-Bear Workshop Cele-bear-ates Arbor Day with Friendship Forest Planting and Donation to the Arbor Day Foundation
Company's campaign results in donation of over 280,000 trees worldwide
(CSRwire) ST. LOUIS, MO - APRIL 25, 2008 - Build-A-Bear Workshop® will cele-
ear-ate Arbor Day by partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant
nearly 220,000 trees in forests throughout the U.S. and 25,000 in Canada
this spring. In addition, the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation will
donate $5,000 to the Arbor Day Foundation, whose mission is to encourage
people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees.
The tree-planting is a result of the Build-A-Bear Workshop Friendship
Forest campaign, which invited Guests and associates in the United
States., United Kingdom and Canada to purchase a certificate to have a
tree planted in honor of a friend or family member. Certificates were
available in Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online from April through
August 2007. In all, Guests and associates worked together to donate more
than 280,000 trees, including a donation of 10,000 trees from the
Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation, for Friendship Forests all over the
world. In October, 10,000 trees were planted in Apache and Sitgreaves
National Forests in Arizona, and nearly 27,000 trees were planted in the
United Kingdom.
"We know that our Guests and associates want to help the environment,"
said Maxine Clark, founder and chief executive bear. "We are proud that
our Guests and associates took such an active role in donating trees to
make the world a better place."
"The trees planted by Build-A-Bear Workshop and its Guests will have an
impact in forests for years to come," said John Rosenow, chief executive
of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees help clean the air we breathe, protect
the soil, clean the water millions of Americans drink and help restore
wildlife habitat. The commitment to plant trees like the one from
Build-A-Bear Workshop and its Guests will be felt for future
generations."
The Friendship Forest campaign was part of the 10th birthday celebration
for Build-A-Bear Workshop, called "The Year of Friendship." In addition
to Friendship Forest, the company focused on a number of other charitable
activities, including building playgrounds in ten neighborhoods across the
country.
