On Earth Day, ArcoStream Goes Green
Company Partners with Carbonfund.org to go CarbonFree
(CSRwire) REDONDO BEACH, CA (April 22, 2008)- ArcoStream, a leader in
streaming, caching, advertising, and encoding solutions, announced today
it has become carbon neutral, making it one of the few companies in the
content and advertising delivery industry to offset
its annual carbon emissions by purchasing credits in green projects in
renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation.
Working with Carbonfund.org, ArcoStream estimated
the usage of its server, storage, and networking hardware, employee
workstations, office space electricity and heating consumption, as well as
employee air and car travel in order to arrive at the number of metric tons
of carbon the company emitted into the atmosphere during the past year.
While it is difficult to estimate other carbon emission contributors, such
as data center power equipment, ArcoStream used an amount of 3.35 annual
metric tons of carbon emissions per server to arrive at a figure for a
carbon offset program.
"Climate change is perhaps the most pressing and immediate issue our
generation is facing, and if we don’t address this now, we will likely
regret our inaction in the future," said Todd Loewenstein, CEO and Founder
of ArcoStream. "We want to be good corporate citizens and environmental
stewards of the planet. People probably don’t think too much about the
environmental impact our industry has on global warming, since most of our
work is done virtually with little physical product, but there is a
definite impact on the planet with carbon emissions."
Carbonfund.org is leading the fight against global warming climate change,
making it easy and affordable for any individual, business or organization
to eliminate their climate impact and hastening the transformation to a
clean energy future. Carbonfund.org achieves its goals through:
Climate change education
Carbon offsets and reductions
Public outreach
"Carbonfund.org is thrilled to welcome ArcoStream to the CarbonFree
Business Program," Carbonfund.org Communications Manager Russell Simon
said. "Connecting customers with high-quality online content leaves a
carbon footprint and ArcoStream is doing its part to fight climate change
by offsetting that footprint. As a leader in the streaming and content
delivery industry, their decision to commit to a clean energy future
challenges others in the industry to do the same."
Carbonfund.org supports renewable energy, energy efficiency and
reforestation projects globally that reduce carbon dioxide emissions and
the threat of climate change. Carbonfund.org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization.
