Companies Want Guidance on UK Carbon Trading Scheme
London event to provide insight on Carbon Reduction Commitment
(CSRwire) LONDON – April 22, 2008 – Companies are looking forward to getting more
guidance on the UK's new mandatory carbon trading scheme, the Carbon
Reduction Commitment (CRC), at Corporate Climate Response –
London.
"I am interested in how the league table will be publicised and getting
more information on how the carbon budgets will be set," says Maggie Kemp,
Environment Manager, Cable & Wireless.
Kemp will be speaking at Corporate Climate Response – London
which takes place May 20-21st at the CBI Conference Centre. She will be
joined by leading companies and Defra experts to examine how the CRC will
operate and its effect on business. UK Minister for the Environment, Phil
Woolas MP, will deliver the keynote address at this event.
'I am interested in seeing the depth of commitment that companies across
different sectors have in measuring their carbon footprint, and in
particular if they are using any methodologies which we may be able to use
in some areas ,' says Dave Farebrother, Environmental Director, Land
Securities.
Carbon management is the first step in preparing for the Carbon Reduction
Commitment which has serious impacts for companies across all sectors.
This is the first time, for instance, companies will be required to
publicly disclose their carbon footprints in an annual league table.
Corporate Climate Response – London will help prepare companies
implicated in the scheme by addressing key topics including coverage
criteria, landlord-tenant relations, the introductory phase and the design
of the league table. The event also focuses on reducing climate impact
across the food supply chain with a full day dedicated to Climate
Change and the Food Industry.
Speakers from over 25 top companies are presenting at this event including
representatives from:
Tesco * M&S * B&Q * BSkyB * Land Securities * Cable & Wireless * BAA *
Barclays * Cisco * IBM * Innocent * Cadbury Schweppes * Nestle *
GlaxoSmithKline * The Co-Operative Group * Pepsi * Scottish &
Newcastle.
