Investors' Circle Reports Record Applicants for Venture Fair
23 Socially Responsible Companies Selected to Present at 2008 Spring Conference
(CSRwire) SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 17, 2008 - Investors' Circle is pleased to
announce the selection of 23 companies set to present at the upcoming
Spring Conference & Venture Fair, May 5-7 at the Hotel Nikko in San
Francisco, CA.
Investors' Circle hosts two venture fairs a year where companies that
address a social or environmental issue present to over 150 investors who
are looking for socially responsible investments. Over the past 15 years,
Investors' Circle members have invested over $120 million in 190 deals.
The Investors' Circle network has previously invested in ZipCar, Seahorse
Power Company, Niman Ranch, Equal Exchange, Virgin Money USA, Indigenous
Designs, TerraCycle and many others. Over 300 companies applied to
present at this year's Spring Conference & Venture Fair, which was the
largest field ever for Investors' Circle. Our selection committee has
narrowed the field to just 23 presenters, representing the best of
scalable, high-impact solutions in areas such as food & organics, health &
wellness, and energy & environment. Presenting ventures include:
A personal care company with a sustainable & organic focus
A botanical-based over-the-counter drug company
A company that's making clean power universally accessible and
affordable
A company that refines grain into biodegradable chemicals
Supply chain mapping and assessment tools company
A vertically integrated hemp seed food processor
Creators of socially responsible film and TV
TerraCycle's CEO, Tom Szaky said, "I owe endless gratitude to Investor's
Circle. Without their programs and investors my young company may not have
survived. They are probably the only investor group that focuses entirely
on environmental and socially beneficial companies. They realize that
there is much more to a company than a bottom line and a profit margin."
About the Investors' Circle Spring Conference:
The Investors' Circle Spring Conference will take place May 5th – 7th at
the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, CA. The Venture Fair on May 6th, open to
accredited investors only, will feature 23 early-stage for-profit companies
and small funds working to solve social and environmental problems. The
Education Day on May 7th is open to all who are interested in exploring
effective ways to fund and nurture sustainable businesses. This day will
feature a plenary discussion titled Is Organic the Next Cleantech?
and a keynote speech from Winona LaDuke of the White Earth Land Recovery
Project. Attendees will engage with breakout session panelists discussing
the state of double bottom line investing and enterprise creation in the
areas of energy & environment, food & organics, education & media, health
& wellness and community & international development.
