UK Minister for the Environment to Open Climate Conference
Phil Woolas MP to discuss Carbon Reduction Commitment
(CSRwire) LONDON - April 1, 2008 - UK Minister for the Environment, Phil Woolas MP,
will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Corporate Climate
Response - London event, which takes place May 20-21st.
The Minister will discuss how the Carbon Reduction Commitment
(CRC), the new mandatory carbon cap-and-trade scheme, will impact
businesses operating in the UK.
He will be joined by leading experts from Defra who were instrumental in
developing the CRC and representatives from leading UK businesses affected
by the scheme including BSkyB, B&Q, IBM, Barclays, Land Securities, BAA and
Cable & Wireless.
Carbon management is the first step in preparing for the CRC which has
serious impacts for companies across all sectors. This is the first time,
for instance, companies will be required to publicly disclose their carbon
footprints in an annual league table.
Corporate Climate Response – London will help companies
implicated in the scheme by addressing key topics including coverage
criteria, landlord-tenant relations, the introductory phase and the design
of the league table. This is the only event that will bring together Defra
representatives, companies, energy providers and carbon management experts
to discuss and debate the CRC's operation.
This event, which is organized by Green Power Conferences, also focuses on
reducing climate impact across the food supply chain with a full day
dedicated to Climate Change and the Food Industry.
Representatives from Tesco, M&S, Nestle, The Co-operative Group, Cadbury
Schweppes, Pepsi, Scottish & Newcastle, and GSK are among those presenting
on this day. Topics to be covered include building sustainable food supply
chains, carbon labelling, water conservation, cutting emissions from
packaging and waste, and the next step in food retailer response.
Early sign-up is encouraged as last year’s Corporate Climate Response
– London event sold out with over 200 sustainability professionals in
attendance.
