Boardroom Bound(R) Announces its 30th Board Appointment
Kathleen M. Flanagan Named to Christian Brothers Investment Services Board of Directors
(CSRwire) WASHINGTON, D.C. - March 24, 2008 - Christian Brothers Investment Services
(CBIS) today announced that Kathleen M. Flanagan, President of Leadership
Communication Inc. and former Senior Vice President of Nuveen Investments,
has joined the company's Board of Directors. Ms. Flanagan was elected at
the CBIS February 22, 2008 board meeting following a referral by Boardroom
Bound(R). Ms. Flanagan is a Lifetime Charter Boardroom Bound "Friend." She
attended the program’s Boardology(TM) 400 – the Pipeline Seminar in
2004.
"Ms. Flanagan brings a wealth of experience in corporate communications,
branding and financial services to CBIS," said Michael W. O'Hern, FSC,

Boardroom Bound, is a 501(C)(3) national public service that fosters good
governance in the 21st century corporate boardroom by A. matriculating
independent, diverse director-candidates from its Boardology(TM) Institute
and B. promoting them for corporate board service. Currently serving
Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, San Francisco and Washington
D.C., the nonprofit plans to expand into six additional cities.
The Boardology(TM) Institute offers Boardology 400 - the Pipeline
Seminar. The "early start" director-candidate development program is
designed to help future generations of business leaders develop their bona
fides for board service. Additionally, Boardroom Bound has established a
national network of individual "Friends", supporters and national
diversity advocate organizations that help fund the Boardology Institute,
refer candidates and identify open board seats in the boardroom.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms. Flanagan said, "I believe strongly in

confident that my experience will help them to become an even stronger
organization."
Ms. Flanagan brings more than two decades of experience to the CBIS board.
Currently, as President of Leadership Communication Inc., she is an
executive consultant in leadership communication, specializing in shared
leadership and decision-making. She helps corporate executives,
leadership teams and boards of directors produce change, set direction,
generate good decisions, inspire action and achieve success through
communication and interaction.
As Senior Vice President of Nuveen Investments, she was responsible for
marketing communications for new product campaigns that raised $25 billion
in assets in closed-end funds. Later, she was responsible for fund board
development, managing relationships with the outside directors who
annually approved the contracts that generated a substantial portion of
Nuveen’s revenue. In this capacity, she developed board presentations
and strategic reviews for the family of Nuveen funds. She had significant
responsibility for managing the operational and financial reviews required
to meet SEC and fund governance requirements.
Ms. Flanagan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Humanities magna
cum laude from Loyola University and her Master of Business Administration
from the University of Chicago. She later attended the Harvard Business
School’s Advanced Management Program and did additional studies at the
Loyola Center for Organization Development. She is currently working on a
book about the post-Vatican II renewal of Catholic sisters, focusing on the
School Sisters of St. Francis who taught at Madonna High School (Aurora,
Illinois) in 1965.
