Green-e Energy Certifies DTE Energy's GreenCurrents Program
DTE Energy's Customers Can Now Sign Up for a Certified Renewable Energy Option
(CSRwire) SAN FRANCISCO, CA - March 20, 2008 - The Center for Resource Solutions
announced today that DTE Energy's renewable energy certificate (REC)
product, "GreenCurrents," is now Green-e Energy Certified. DTE Energy
joins the growing network of renewable energy providers that offer
products certified by Green-e Energy, the nation's leading certification
and verification program for renewable energy.
"Green-e Energy is happy to welcome DTE Energy to our program," said
Andrew Nourafshan, Green-e Program Analyst. "We're pleased that DTE
Energy's electric customers in Southeast Michigan have easy access to
certified, locally produced renewable energy from their local utility."
GreenCurrents was introduced last April to give DTE Energy's Detroit
Edison electric customers the option of "greening up" their power with
renewable energy created from wind, biomass, and other environmentally
friendly sources.
"Achieving Green-e Energy certification is like getting the Good
Housekeeping Seal of Approval for our renewable energy program," said
Trevor Lauer, vice president of marketing for DTE Energy. "We are
extremely proud to have our GreenCurrents program certified by an
organization like the Center for Resource Solutions that sets the highest
standards for the industry."
Under the GreenCurrents program, DTE Energy's Detroit Edison electric
customers can select a renewable energy option that best fits their
budget. Residential customers can purchase a block of renewable energy
that's equal to 15-20 percent of a typical home's monthly electric usage,
or choose to match 100 percent of their home's electricity consumption
with renewable resources. Business customers can purchase 1,000 kilowatt
hours of green energy for an extra $20 a month-or match all of their
electricity usage with renewable energy for an additional cost of two
cents per kilowatt hour. Additional information on the GreenCurrents
program is available at www.GreenCurrents.com,
or by calling 866-207-6955.
Green-e Energy is the leading renewable energy certification and
verification program in the U.S., with over 175 participating vendors that
sold nearly 10 million MWhs of renewable energy in 2006. The program
provides independent, third party certification to ensure certified
renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection
standards.
Providers of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy agree to abide by
the Green-e Energy Code of Conduct, and meet strict disclosure and
truth-in-advertising requirements. All marketers of Green-e Energy
Certified products undergo an annual verification audit to document that
the company purchased and/or generated enough quantity and type of
renewable energy to meet customer demand and marketing claims.
The Green-e logo, the national symbol for renewable energy excellence,
enables a growing number of consumers to easily identify high quality,
certified renewable energy options, as well as everyday consumer products
that are produced by companies that use renewable energy in their
operations.
