USA Cares Gives $1 Million in Assistance in Record Time

Economic factors add additional burdens on Military Families

(CSRwire) RADCLIFF, KY - March 18, 2008 - With a husband suffering from lung and spine disease after his tour in Iraq, bills piling up, and seven children to care for, the military spouse was at a loss. She wasn't sure if anyone could help them catch up on their bills while her husband awaited a lung transplant and Department of Veterans Affairs reviewed their case.

That's when USA Cares stepped in and provided a $1,495 grant to pay bills, helping the family get back on its feet financially and providing a ray of hope through the clouds of heartache. And in doing so, USA Cares surpassed $1,000,000 in direct support to families in just seven months of its fiscal year and on pace for another record breaking year. Currently USA Cares has over 600 open cases being worked by a dedicated staff and volunteers.

"Families like this are the reason USA Cares exists," said Roger Stradley, founder of USA Cares, Operations Director and a retired command sergeant major in the U.S. Army. "They have done so much for our nation, yet sometimes find themselves in tough situations financially. Our mission is to assist them through grants, friendship, and advice with the goal of restoring the dignity they deserve."

Since 2003, USA Cares has given millions of dollars in grants to assist military families with basic living needs. "This year has proven to be one of high demand" noted Stradley, "as the subprime mortgage crisis and other economic factors have made it difficult for some military families to keep up with mounting bills coupled with the continuing surge of troop strength in Iraq. We've seen an increase in requests and many of the stories we hear are incredibly moving" said Stradley. "But that's why we're here: To help in tough times. Our men and women in uniform deserve nothing less."
