Imperial Oil contributes more than $3 million to United Way – Centraide
(CSRwire) CALGARY, AB – March 11, 2008 – Imperial Oil is pleased to announce the
company, in partnership with its employees and retirees, contributed more
than $3 million to the 2007 United Way-Centraide campaign across
Canada.
"Our employees and retirees have once again demonstrated outstanding
support and spirit for United Way. Their generosity and enthusiasm have
made this the company's most successful campaign to date," said Tim Hearn,
Imperial's chairman and chief executive officer. "We have a long history of
contributing to United Way in Canada. We recognize the importance of their
services in our community and have seen the difference they make to
Canadians."
Imperial's 2007 campaign included numerous employee activities
including
participation in Days of Caring, chili cook-offs, clothing drives and
canoe races.
In addition on September 15, 2007, 500 Esso-branded retail gasoline sites
across the country participated in Esso United Way Day and raised nearly
$200,000. On this day, Imperial donated one cent from every litre of
gasoline pumped and one dollar from each car wash sold to United Way.
United Way-Centraide is a non-profit organization located in 125 Canadian
centres. Each United Way-Centraide works locally to find solutions to
community problems by mobilizing volunteers, identifying community needs
and raising and distributing funds. The money raised this year will help
children and youth, senior citizens in need, families and abused women,
disabled and homeless people as well as newcomers to Canada.
In 2007, Imperial Oil contributed more than $11 million in community
investment activities across Canada, building on a tradition of corporate
giving that began with the company's inception in 1880. More than 125
years later, Imperial is supporting organizations from coast-to-coast with
an emphasis on education, environment, and the community.
