SC Johnson Transitions to Hybrid Cars to Help Promote Clean Air
Global Consumer Products Company to Replace Sales Fleet with Hybrids
(CSRwire) RACINE, WI – February 27, 2008 – When SC Johnson's sales force hit the
highway, they will be driving to save the planet. The leading consumer
products company recently inked a lease deal to add new hybrid vehicles to
its fleet each year through 2011.
Armed with a steadfast commitment to reducing the company's impact on the
environment, this move is the latest of several initiatives SC Johnson has
executed to help protect the planet's resources and reduce the abundance of
greenhouse gases that pollute the air.
The hybrid cars, which combine an electric motor with traditional fuel
usage, will help the company's sales force boost their mileage an average
of 40 miles per gallon by 2011. Just last year, 25 percent of the new
cars added to the sales force fleet were hybrids.
SC Johnson also is successfully trekking toward its goal of sourcing 40
percent of its global electricity usage from renewable sources by the same
date.
"Our greenhouse gas emissions are down 27 percent since 2000," explained
Pat Penman, Director, Global Environmental and Safety Actions. "Adding new
hybrids to our fleet each year through 2011 will help ensure we maintain
this reduction trend, achieve our global clean air goals, and continue to
do what's right for families and our planet."
Legacy of Environmental Leadership
Environmental commitment is nothing new for SC Johnson. For 122 years,
the company has held steadfast to its environmental commitment and spirit
of innovation. From being one of the first consumer products
manufacturers to join the EPA's Climate Leaders program in 2002 to its
leadership as the first company to remove chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from
all aerosol products – three years ahead of the 1978 U.S. mandate, SC
Johnson continues to look for innovative ways to safeguard our shared
environment.
