UPS Leads United Way Campaign for 8th Consecutive Year
Company and Employees Donate Almost $61 Million
(CSRwire) ATLANTA -January 15, 2008 - For the eighth year in a row, UPS (NYSE:UPS)
and its employees have led the nation in supporting the annual United Way
campaign.
The company, through The UPS Foundation, and its employees and retirees
pledged $60.8 million to United Way during the 2007 campaign. In Atlanta,
UPS's corporate headquarters, employees donated more than $4.45 million.
In the 26 years that UPS has supported the United Way, the company and its
employees have donated an astonishing $872 million.
"Year after year, through generous gifts and significant volunteer time,
UPS and its employees demonstrate a commitment to community that is second
to none," said United Way of America President and CEO Brian Gallagher.
"We're very proud of our partnership with UPS because of our shared belief
in philanthropy as a creator of success and positive sustainable change
that ultimately improves lives."
More than 246,000 UPS employees participated in 2007, contributing more
than $52.8 million. The company's contribution of $8 million through The
UPS Foundation, combined with the employee contribution and retiree
contributions still coming in, will bring UPS's total donation amount to
almost $61 million, or more than $1 million more than the 2006
contributions.
In addition to their financial contributions, UPS employees also
volunteered their time and talents to their communities in 2007, donating
more than 960,000 hours of time through Global Volunteer Week and UPS's
Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, a company-wide volunteer initiative that
matches employees and their families with volunteer opportunities based on
their interests, skills and availability. UPS also donates loaned
executives to several local United Way affiliates across the country.
"When Jim Casey started UPS in 1907, he established a company-wide passion
for philanthropy and care for the communities that UPS delivers to on a
daily basis," said UPS Chairman and CEO Scott Davis. "In celebration of
our centennial, we donated more hours and gave more money than ever before
to United Way, honoring our roots and the thousands of communities UPS has
touched over the past 100 years. We are so proud to have helped enrich the
lives of others through our strong partnership with United Way."
Founded in 1951, The UPS Foundation has a tradition of providing support
through grant programs and initiatives that help improve the quality of
life in communities where UPS employees live and work. Last year, The
Foundation donated nearly $46 million to charitable organizations
worldwide.
As the world's largest package delivery company and an employer of 425,300
worldwide, UPS is uniquely positioned to identify and address the urgent
human needs of our communities. UPS's human contributions are often
coupled with financial donations made by The UPS Foundation. To find out
