Green Sand Inc. Takes an Environmental Leadership Position by Joining Carbonfund.org's CarbonFree Program
(CSRwire) HONOLULU, HI, January 21, 2008 - Green Sand Inc. (GSI) announced today that
it has offset its carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org, the
country's leading carbon offset organization. After implementing
strategies to reduce their footprint directly, GSI's carbon footprint was
calculated at 40 tons. GSI's donation through the CarbonFree Small
Business program offsets 70 tons of carbon dioxide, making GSI a
carbon-negative company. This commitment places GSI as an environmental
leader in the architecture community and demonstrates proactive steps
being taken in the fight against global climate change.
Green Sand Inc.'s clients are very concerned about global warming.
Considering the implications of climate change, carbon offsets through
Carbonfund.org are a natural extension of the work GSI does on behalf of
its stakeholders.
Green Sand Inc. has the technical expertise required to make its projects
sustainable and an example of what architecture can and should be. It
strives to be a model of environmental stewardship. As such, GSI has
established environmental policies and procedures to help track, monitor,
and provide examples for what a small business can do to reduce its carbon
footprint. GSI's corporate environmental programs include office selection,
purchasing, waste reduction, recycling, and project design. GSI reduces its
footprint to the maximum extent possible and offsets the remainder through
Carbonfund.org.
Green Sand Inc. founder Matthew Goyke said, "We’re big believers in
practicing architecture in the context of environmental sustainability. It
is important that people realize the impact their actions have on the
environment. We all need to reduce our footprint to the extent possible
and then mitigate the rest through programs such as Carbonfund.org.
Sustainable design is about good design, designing to reduce energy needs,
reduce waste, and to develop a project that is healthier to inhabit and
more durable. This approach targets the problem from four different
angles: appropriate use of resources, reducing waste, health and the
enjoyment of built space, and durability and maintenance."
"Sustainable design is one of the most important tools in the fight
against global climate change," said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of
Carbonfund.org. "Well-designed buildings and spaces can go a long way to
preventing the emission of greenhouse gasses. For the emissions that
can’t be reduced or prevented, certified carbon offsets are the
responsible action to take. We are truly excited to partner with Green
Sand Inc."
