Military Children Receive "Bikes For Joy"
(CSRwire) SOUTHAMPTON, PA – January 10, 2008 - The holiday season is a time for
giving, and Harrison Jacobs was inspired, inspired to give bicycles to the
children of deployed Service Members in his area for Christmas. After some
thought, and discussion with wife, Erika, a call went out, for support, to
friends and family members in the Philadelphia area. The response was
overwhelming, enabling the gifts to be donated in time for some Holiday
cheer.
The bicycles were provided at or near cost by the bicycle shop, Human
Zoom, in Ardmore, PA. Owner, Mike Bufo and store manager, Anthony Hennesy
were in instrumental in assisting the 'Bikes for Joy' project, and were
moved to donate helmets for every child receiving a bike.
The 128th Chemical of Southampton and the A & C Troops of the 104th
Cavalry became the locations for the delivery of 60 bicycles for many
happy children. The bicycles, bright and shiny, were delivered on December
19th, and 20th 2007 to most of the children and parents. While some of the
bicycles were picked up by a parent, from a 'Special Santa,' and placed
underneath the tree.
"Everyone was very excited, and very thankful," said Christine Tolbert,
Family Readiness Group leader for the 128th Chemical in Southampton.
"There is no way we would have succeeded without the support of friends
and families in the Philadelphia area," says Harrison Jacobs. "Without the
good wishes, and financial gifts we received, we would not have been able
to make this possible." "The joint effort has ensured these children, who
will not have their Dad home for Christmas due to service for the country,
a special gift and a thank you this holiday season," Jacobs added.
Susie McKernan, an Executive Board member for USA Cares assisted and
supported 'Bikes for Joy' in their quest to fulfill the mission.
