Jordan Brand Honors Nation's Unsung Educational Heroes with $1 Million in Grants

Jordan Fundamentals Program Awards 300 Annual Grants to Teachers

(CSRwire) BEAVERTON, OR - December 21, 2007 – Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, Inc., today announced that through its Jordan Fundamentals program it will recognize 300 educators nationwide for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the classroom. This year, the Jordan Fundamentals Program will award $1 million in total grants for the 2007-2008 school year to aid teachers working in grades 1-12 at economically disadvantaged schools to provide the resources necessary for instructional creativity and enhance curriculum development.

"Jordan Fundamentals was designed to provide financial support to some of the most talented educators across America," says Roman Vega, Brand Manager, Jordan Brand. "These dedicated educational heroes demonstrate instructional creativity that cultivates the minds of their students, and commit themselves to providing every single child the best possible education."

The Jordan Fundamentals program was designed to recognize and provide financial support to teachers who strive to overcome challenges and limited resources to achieve excellence through instructional creativity, innovative teaching and high learning expectations for students. Since 1999, the Jordan Fundamentals program has presented more than $8 million in financial aid to public secondary school teachers where at least 50 percent of the student body population is eligible for the free or reduced lunch program.

"The Jordan Fundamentals program was created out of the belief that education is the key to opportunity and building commitment among students, which ultimately fosters personal excellence and achievement," says Michael Jordan. "I feel that a solid education is the direct result of teachers who dedicate themselves to motivating and inspiring America’s youth in the classroom."
