Deutsche Bank, Anglo American, BASF, Shell, BT and British Airways to Discuss Managing Corporate Responsibility, April 24-26 in London
(CSRwire) LONDON, England - Ethical Corporation magazine, the fastest growing
business publication dedicated to corporate social and environmental
responsibility, announced today that 200 multinational companies and
organisations are set to participate in a conference in London at the
Millennium Gloucester Hotel.
The Ethical Corporation Europe 2002 conference on April 24, 25 and 26 will
provide companies with practical advice on how to manage social and
environmental responsibility and measure ethical performance.
Companies are increasingly being driven to act on ethical issues as a
result of campaigns by non-governmental organisations, the media, changing
stakeholder expectations, the desire within companies to ensure their
activities are socially responsible, the growing awareness of work
conditions in their supply base, and emerging government legislation.
Drawn from the experiences of pioneering companies and organisations
tackling these issues, various methods are emerging as best practices.
The conference will highlight these practices with presentations from such
companies as:
§ Deutsche Bank Group, one of the world's leading financial institutions,
will discuss global corporate citizenship and what this means for
companies' internal operations and structures.
§ Anglo American, a global leader in mining and natural resources,
who will discuss what the public expects from multi-national companies and
what steps Anglo American is taking to address the sustainable development
agenda.
§ BASF, the German chemicals giant, will be speaking about how timely and
accurate reporting pays dividends with stakeholders and how corporate
responsibility policies tie in with wider corporate governance issues.
§ Shell International, a global leader in both energy and sustainable
development whose progress in corporate responsibility has been a
well-documented success to date, will provide an in-depth case study about
Shell's business case for corporate responsibility and sustainable
development policy integration. This will be delivered by Mark Wade, the
Founder of the Shell Report.
§ British Telecommunications, one of the world's largest telecom
companies, will talk about how it communicates with employees, the media
and stakeholders to get its message across clearly and effectively.
§ British Airways will be providing a case study about their key
challenges in analysing and managing their unique impact and how they are
operationalising bribery and corruption policy
and dealing with UK law changes.
§ British American Tobacco, one of the world's leading tobacco companies
with over 300 brands in its portfolio, a staff of nearly 90,000 and
operations in 64 countries, will outline what corporate responsibility
means for a company in acontroversial industry, and how it is embedding
Corporate Responsibility throughout its operating companies.
Many companies have developed codes of conduct to refine and give guidance
on their operating principles. These codes indicated that a company is
aware of the issues and wants to ensure that
poor conditions do not exist in its supply chain.
Marks & Spencer, Adidas-Salomon and the Prince of Wales International
Business Leaders Forum will conduct a panel discussion on how major
European companies are working with their supply bases and what lessons
other companies can take from their experiences. Many companies freely
admit that they are only just beginning to implement their codes.
Currently there is no consensus on how monitoring of Ethical Practices
should be carried out, however our one day intensive workshop on 26 April
will take companies through the key steps that are needed when developing
systems to track progress in integrating responsible programmes.
Global Event Sponsors are consultants EQ Management, while main and co
event sponsors are First & 42nd and URS Corporation.
The conference will be beneficial to all businesses that are interested in
developing responsible ethical practices into their work environment. To
register for the conference or subscribe to the magazine, log on to
