Give More This Holiday Season
Find the Perfect Gift at The Body Shop(R) and Help Support Our 2007 Stop Violence in the Home Campaign
(CSRwire) November 7, 2007 - This holiday season, give more than just the perfect
gift. When you purchase The Body Shop Bag for Life ($5.00) you
will make a positive impact on many lives across the country. The
stylish, colorful, long-lasting bag is not only environmentally friendly
but $2 of each bag sold will go to the National Coalition Against Domestic
Violence.
For the past five years The Body Shop has been committed to its
partnership with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV),
supporting women and children affected by the issue with its Stop the
Violence in the Home campaign. Proceeds from the Bag for Life will
support the expansion of the unique NCADV Cosmetic and Reconstructive
Surgery (CRS) Program called FACE TO FACE. NCADV works in partnership
with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
(AAFPRS) to assist survivors of domestic violence who cannot afford the
cosmetic and reconstructive surgery needed to repair the injuries they
have received from a spouse or intimate partner.
Unfortunately, up to 275 million children in the world are affected by
domestic violence, while one in four women is a victim of domestic
violence at some point in their lives. In the U.S. alone, up to three
million children are living with domestic violence in their daily
lives.*
"The holiday season is a time for families and friends to share their love
for one another, yet for many in the U.S. this happy time will be clouded
by violence and abuse. Domestic violence is an enormous problem, which
should not be ignored during the holidays. Consumers can support this
cause and help make a difference while they shop this holiday season,"
says Peter Ridler, President of The Body Shop.
In addition to supporting domestic violence victims here in the U.S.,
consumers who purchase the Bag for Life will help make a difference
across the globe. Every time you use the Bag for Life instead of a plastic
carrier bag, you will be helping to save the environment. The bag is
sourced through The Body Shop's Community Trade program, which ensures a
fair deal for marginalized communities across the world.
With The Body Shop wide variety of gift-wrappings, there is no need to
waste time wrapping presents. The Bag for Life is the perfect
compliment to any gift on your shopping list. If you are looking for a
pouch with a little more sparkle, try the satin drawstring gift bag
($5.00). The drawstring bag comes in pink or red embroidered satin and
can be used again by the gift recipient to hold bath products, jewelry -
the possibilities are endless. Americans spend an estimated $2.7 billion
annually on ribbons, paper and bows - almost all of these goods wind up in
the trash. The satin drawstring bag is great way to make any present
special without harming the environment. Similar to the Bag for
Life, five percent of the proceeds from the satin drawstring gift bags
will go to the Stop Violence in the Home program.
If you like to create your own gift from start to finish, The Body Shop is
offering a selection of gorgeous rich plum and red colored festive gift
bags and boxes to beautifully package the gifts you've chosen from the
vast array of products in store. With five percent of proceeds going to
the NCADV, it's a wonderful way to design the perfect present while giving
back this holiday. Prices for the Create Your Own bags range from $2.00
for mini gift bag to $7.50 for a deluxe gift box.
Rita Smith, CEO of the NCADV said today: "As we shop this holiday season
for our friends and family, it is important to remember the millions of
women and children who been affected by domestic violence. The Body Shop
Stop Violence in the Home campaign and their support of the FACE to FACE
program helps women regain their confidence to face the world again and
rebuild their lives, which in turn will also put a smile back on their
children's faces."
Past NCADV projects supported by The Body Shop include:
The launch of a national Teacher Training campaign to address the
most effective ways to help protect children from the harmful effects of
domestic violence by training the people who interact with them on a daily
basis.
Publication of the National Directory, a unique publication,
featuring details on 16 program areas of the 2,001 domestic violence
shelters in the U.S. Thousands of domestic violence advocates and
battered women use the directory every day as a resource in finding
shelters and services.
Support of the NCADV's Public Policy Office which provides
information to shelters, domestic violence programs, advocates, state and
federal legislators and the public on key domestic violence votes and
actions.
Consumers can stop by The Body Shop or visit www.bodyshop.com to find the
